Journalist Iason Athanasiadis
visits Dartmouth and Building Bridges

Iason Athanasiadis

This May, the free-lance journalist, Iason Athanasiadis, at the invitation of Building Bridges, took time from his Nieman Fellowship at Harvard to come to the Upper Valley to share his experiences in the Middle East. He is of Greek nationality and has studied Arabic at Oxford and Persian at Tehran University. Iason uses his Greek nationality to help bridge the gap between East and West. His most recent works revolve about the new generation of Iranians who are growing up after the Revolution of 1979.

Iason talked with Prof. Misagh Parsa's class while showing slides of his award-winning photographs to emphasize his points. He then had lunch with several Building Bridges supporters and students affiliated with the Al-Nur group at the college, in which there was sharing of experiences on times spent in Lebanon, Iran and Egypt.

Following his Nieman Fellowship, Iason plans to spend a year in Turkey to round out his knowledge of the cultures and language of the Middle East.
